Last spring I started working on a new spooky-themed book series about three friends and their animal sidekicks at a small animal’s club in the Swedish suburbs called Bäckby.
I’m not sure if it’s common elsewhere, but an animal’s club or “4H” as we call it here in Sweden is basically a small farm that’s open to the public and where kids can meet and learn about common farm animals. I think it’s a great initiative since coming across animals like these is very rare if you live in the suburbs.
The first book Bäckahästen(eng. translation: “The Brook Horse”) just got published in Sweden, and I’m super proud to be a part of it!
Here are some sample sketches of the main characters Idriz, Jakob and Roya + their animal friends.
Fun fact: I grew up in the suburbs myself and there used to be a small animal’s club just like Bäckby close to where I lived! I used to hang out there all the time as a kid and have lots of fond memories from that place. Here’s a photo that I snapped of the ponies some time during the late 90’s.

Senaste frilansuppdraget: Bäckahästen
I våras påbörjade jag illustrationerna till en ny bokserie om kompisarna i Bäckby – en 4H gård i förorten där det händer mystiska och kusliga saker. Väldigt kul tema som innehåller ett gäng söta djur dessutom. Första boken heter “Bäckahästen” och släpptes nu i höst. Boken är skriven av Angelica Öhrn och utgiven av Hedvig Förlag.
Gjorde dessa provskisser av de tre vännerna Idriz, Jakob och Roya till serien.
Här är första grovskissen av omslaget och det färdiga resultatet.
Lite kuriosa: Jag har själv vuxit upp i förorten och hängde på just en sådan här 4H gård som låg nära där jag bodde. Nostalgi! Jag kommer kunna plocka massor av inspiration ifrån saker jag minns från den tiden. Här är ett foto på hästarna som brukade beta på en gräsplätt intill stallet på somrarna.
